Juniors Report 2008

Taunton Table Tennis - Juniors 2008 Summary Review Report.

Taunton Table Tennis Juniors’ year began last June following the award of a grant from Somerset County Council Youth Services for £6,500 to purchase new equipment and to pay for hall hire and coaching costs. The grant stipulated that the money had to be spent/allocated by 29th February 2008.

Our purchases included six tournament quality tables, 30 court surrounds and other equipment such as scoring machines and umpire tables, coaching aids and materials, bats and balls. These have all been in regular use when appropriate and we have seen the number of young players attending increase from an average of 10 to 12 per week up to 22 per week in the latest figures. Junior membership has also increased with 38 members currently registered.

We also purchased a consignment of 50 “Taunton Table Tennis” club shirts, 20 of which had been sold at the end of the financial year. All proceeds from the sale of shirts go to supporting junior club activities and any member wishing to purchase a shirt can do so for £15. Just ask any member of the junior committee for details.

The junior finances are now well set as we have the income received since the section started last year (approx. £1,950) available to provide continued support for our activities during 2008/9, all costs for last year having been covered by the grant. There are also 30 shirts in stock which will provide additional income as they are sold.

The aim of TTT Juniors in the coming year will be to increase opportunities for young players to improve at table tennis so we will be looking to continue coaching sessions after the summer holidays and to continue the activities of the Saturday league.
